Use phone projection


The telephone projection enables you to connect your Android smartphone or iPhone to your system and use the respective functions via the system. You can run and control your smartphone apps from the larger screen, improving the use of your system.
Depending on the vehicle model and specifications, you may be able to use the phone projection via USB or wirelessly.
  • It is recommended that you use a USB cable approved by the manufacturer of your smartphone. Using unapproved USB cables can cause phone projection problems or system errors.
  • Use only apps that are compatible with phone projection. Using incompatible apps can cause problems with your system or your smartphone.
  • Only compatible apps will be displayed on the phone projection screen. The compatible apps are also listed on the following websites:

Using Android Auto over a USB connection (if wireless connectivity is supported)

You can connect your Android smartphone to the system via Android Auto and control the smartphone apps on the system screen.
Before using Android Auto, please check the following:
Android Auto support on your smartphone
Visit the Android home page (https://www.android.com/auto) and check which regions, device types, and models support Android Auto.
Android auto installation on your smartphone
Download and install the “Android Auto” app from Google Play. If you are in a region that does not support Android Auto, you will not be able to install the app.
To start Android Auto, do the following:
  1. On the home screen, press All Menus> Settings> Device Connection> Android Auto> Activate Android Auto.
  1. Connect your smartphone to the USB port in your vehicle using the cable that came with the smartphone.
  1. The first time you connect the device for phone projection, read the message in the pop-up notification window and press Next> OK.
Do not connect and disconnect the USB port multiple times in quick succession. This can lead to a device or system failure.
  1. If your smartphone is locked, unlock it and consent to use phone projection.
  1. When the smartphone is detected, the Android Auto menu is activated on the All Menus screen.
  1. From the home screen, press All Menus> Android Auto.
  1. Use the functions of your smartphone such as calls or messages on your system.
  1. Touch an icon on the screen to run an app or function.
  2. Press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel to start Google voice recognition.
  • Even if you start the phone projection while music is playing in the music player of your smartphone, the music playback may not automatically switch to your system. M To play music through the system, open the music player on the phone projection screen and start playback, or press and hold the media button and select an appropriate phone projection function from the media selection window.
  • If you use the navigation of your smartphone via the telephone projection, sounds are played both from the radio / media function of the system and from the navigation via the speakers in your vehicle. If you turn the volume control while both tones are playing, the navigation volume will be set first.
  1. To exit Android Auto, remove the USB cable from your system.
  • When phone projection is enabled, you cannot change the phone projection settings. To make changes to your settings, remove the USB cable from your system.
  • Depending on Google's guidelines, the icons in the main Android Auto view may appear differently.

Using Apple CarPlay over a USB connection (if wireless connectivity is supported)

You can connect your iPhone to the system via Apple CarPlay and control the iPhone apps on the system screen.
Before using Apple CarPlay, please check the following:
Apple CarPlay support on your iPhone
Apple CarPlay and Siri activated or updated on your iPhone
Make sure Apple CarPlay and Siri are enabled on your iPhone. If the features aren't there on your iPhone, update your iPhone's operating system to the latest version.
Do the following to start Apple CarPlay:
  1. On the start screen, press All Menus> Settings> Device Connection> Apple CarPlay> Activate Apple CarPlay.
  1. To adjust the display of the Apple CarPlay screen to match the position of the steering wheel, press .
The screens displayed and the functions available may vary depending on the vehicle model and specifications.
  1. Connect your iPhone to the USB port in your vehicle using the cable that came with the iPhone.
  1. If this is your first time connecting the device for Apple CarPlay, read the message in the pop-up notification window and press Next> OK.

Using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay over a wireless connection (if wireless connectivity is supported)

You can wirelessly connect your Android smartphone or iPhone to the system.
Android smartphones must support Android Auto Wireless, and iPhones must support Apple CarPlay wireless. In addition, Bluetooth and WiFi must be activated on your Android smartphone or iPhone.

Connect your Android smartphone via Android Auto

You can connect your Android smartphone to the system via Android Auto and control the smartphone apps on the system screen.
Before starting Android Auto, you need to enable a connection type that will be used for phone projection and set up the device list for wireless connections.
For your safety, park the vehicle in a safe place before changing the phone projection settings.

Enable wireless connectivity

From the home screen, press All menus> Settings> Wi-Fi, and then press Use phone projection when connected to Wi-Fi to activate.

Enable USB connectivity

You can also start Android Auto by plugging your smartphone into your vehicle's USB port. To use a USB cable to connect your smartphone to the system, you need to enable USB connectivity.
From the home screen, press All Menus> Settings> Device Connection> Phone Projection> Menu> Connection Settings and press Use Android Auto when connected via USB to activate it.
The screens displayed and the functions available may vary depending on the vehicle model and specifications.

Pairing Smartphones with Your Wireless Phone Projection System

To connect wirelessly for telephone projection, first pair your smartphone with the system to add it to the list of telephone projection devices. You can register up to six smartphones.
Make sure your smartphone supports Android Auto Wireless.
  1. From the home screen, press All Menus> Settings> Device Connection> Phone Projection.
  1. The first time you pair a smartphone with your system, you can also press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel.
  1. Press Add New.
  1. Activate Bluetooth and WiFi on the smartphone you want to connect, find your vehicle system in the Bluetooth device list and select it.
  1. Check the system's bluetooth name displayed on the system screen in the new registration pop-up window.
If the smartphone has been added to the system's Bluetooth device list, you must first delete the smartphone from the list to add it to the phone projection device list.
  1. Make sure that the Bluetooth codes displayed on the smartphone and system screens match and confirm the connection from the smartphone.
  1. Once the registration is complete, the smartphone is automatically added to the Bluetooth device list.
  2. After pairing, the smartphone is connected to the system. Read the message in the pop-up message window and press Next> OK.
Smartphones that only support USB connections are also shown in the device list of the phone projection if a USB cable has been used to connect to the system. When the connection is terminated, the smartphone will no longer appear on the list.

Access to the phone projection device list

You can see registered smartphones in the device list of the phone projection.
From the home screen, press All Menus> Settings> Device Connection> Phone Projection.

  1. Connection Settings: Enable or disable USB connectivity for Android Auto or change the layout of the Apple CarPlay screen.
  2. Manual: Call up online manual via QR code. For security reasons, you can only use the QR code when the vehicle is stationary.

  1. Disconnect the smartphone.
  1. Pair a new smartphone with your system.
  1. Delete paired smartphones. If you delete a smartphone from the list, it will also be deleted from the Bluetooth device list.

Start Android Auto

Before using Android Auto, please check the following:
Android Auto support on your smartphone
Visit the Android home page (https://www.android.com/auto) and check which regions, device types, and models support Android Auto.

  • Apple CarPlay
  • If your wireless connection is poor, generate a new passkey by pressing All Menus> Settings> Wi-Fi> Generate New Wi-Fi Passkey. Then try again.

Connect your iPhone via Apple CarPlay

You can connect your iPhone to the system via Apple CarPlay and control the iPhone apps on the system screen. Only wireless connections are available for Apple CarPlay.
Before starting Apple CarPlay, activate the wireless connection and set up the device list for wireless connections.
For your safety, park the vehicle in a safe place before changing the Apple CarPlay settings.

Enable wireless connectivity

From the home screen, press All menus> Settings> Wi-Fi, and then press Use phone projection when connected to Wi-Fi to activate.

Pairing iPhones with your Apple CarPlay wireless system

For Apple CarPlay wireless connections, first pair your iPhone with the system to add it to the phone projection device list. You can register up to six iPhones.
Make sure your iPhone supports Apple CarPlay wireless.
  1. From the home screen, press All Menus> Settings> Device Connection> Phone Projection.
  1. The first time you pair an iPhone with your system, you can also press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel.
  1. Press Add New.
  1. Activate Bluetooth and WiFi on the iPhone you want to connect, find your vehicle system in the Bluetooth device list and select it.
  1. Check the system's bluetooth name displayed on the system screen in the new registration pop-up window.
If the iPhone has been added to the system's Bluetooth device list, you must first delete the iPhone from the list to add it to the phone projection device list.
  1. Make sure the bluetooth codes shown on the screens of the iPhone and the system match and confirm the connection from the iPhone.
  1. Once the registration is complete, the iPhone will automatically be added to the Bluetooth device list as well.
