biography

Daenerys Targaryen is the only living daughter and the youngest child of Aerys II Targaryen, the Mad King, and his sister-wife Rhaella. Her father died during the sack of King's Landing before she was born. The usurper Robert Baratheon ascended the Iron Throne as the new king after the successful rebellion against the House of Targaryen. Her mother, who was pregnant with Daenerys, and her brother Viserys fled to Drachenstein Island, the family's last stronghold, to escape Robert.

Rhaegar Targaryen, Aerys heir, his wife and children and almost the entire royal family fell victim to Robert's vindictiveness. The night Daenerys was born on Dragonstone, a tremendous storm raged, destroying the Targaryen fleet at anchor[1] and to which she owes her nickname "Storm Daughter". Her mother died in childbed, leaving Daenerys and Viserys orphans. Loyalists took the children east to safety in the Free Cities, far from Robert's sphere of influence.[2][3]

Years went by and her brother tried in vain to find allies who would help him recapture the Iron Throne. Eventually they found refuge and help with Illyrio Mopatis, the influential Magister of the Free City of Pentos. As was the custom among the Targaryens, Daenerys was to become her brother's wife. However, she lived in constant fear of him and his uncontrollable outbursts of anger, so the meek and shy Daenerys obeyed her brother, who promised her a home - the only thing she wanted.[4]

season 1

Daenerys doubts the intentions of her generous host, Illyrio Mopatis, who took her in for nothing in return. Together with Viserys he has started negotiations that lead to a quick marriage of Daenerys and the Dothraki prince Khal To lead Drogo even though she is afraid of Drogo herself. Viserys is said to have commanded the 40,000-strong army of the Khals which should enable him to conquer Westeros. From Viserys' point of view, she has no choice, and complies with an indirect threat from her brother. Then she steps into the hot bath that was let in by a servant without feeling anything of the temperature - an indication of the inheritance of her house.

The wedding takes place on the coast outside of Pentos and takes place according to the rough Dothraki custom, which pays Drogo more attention than his wife. A variety of gifts are offered to the couple. Ser Jorah Mormont, an exiled knight from Westeros, presents Daenerys with a few books on the Seven Kingdoms and offers his services to Viserys. Daenerys finds the gift of Magister Illyrio particularly valuable, who gives her three dragon eggs, which, according to him, have been petrified over time. Her husband gives her a beautiful white horse, which they ride off to consummate the marriage, much to Daenerys' discomfort.[4]

Drugs Khalasar marches eastwards, a journey of several months on horseback - an ordeal for Daenerys, who is not used to riding. Ser Jorah comforts her and assures her that it will be easier. Her husband's behavior, who treats her no better than a slave, also troubles her. She seeks advice from her new servant Doreah, who comes from the free city of Lys and has worked in the brothels there. Daenerys learns to use her sexuality; with the knowledge she has acquired, she gradually gains more self-confidence and can eventually gain the approval of her husband. In the following time the relationship between the two becomes very loving and Daenerys finds happiness in their marriage.

Her second servant, Irri, teaches Daenerys the Dothraki language.[5] She learns more about the customs of her new people from the experienced Ser Jorah, who undauntedly shows her Viserys' weakness, even though he has sworn allegiance to him. Over time, she grows into her role as a Khaleesi the Horde in and begin dem Khalasar To give orders. Viserys noticeably loses control of his sister and feels ordered around by her, including when she orders the riders to stop for an indefinite period of time. In the subsequent confrontation between the two siblings, Viserys becomes violent, whereupon Daenerys is taken under protection by Rakharo, one of their warriors, who humiliates her brother and even threatens to insult him Khaleesi to kill.[6]

Irri discovers that Drogo's Daenerys is pregnant and foresees that she will have a son. Drogo is also satisfied with the prospect of a possible heir. Pregnancy consolidates her status as the princess of Khalasar and further strengthens the relationship with Khal Drogo. The news spreads to Westeros. In King's Landing, King Robert orders the murder of the mother and her unborn child for fear that a male Targaryen heir might threaten his throne. Magister Illyrio, who is in the capital at the time, discusses the effects with Varys, who urges a change of power soon.[7]

Than Khalasar reaching the town of Vaes Dothrak, her brother expresses his dislike for the primitive nature of the Dothraki. Daenerys disagrees and demands that he treat her people with respect. Later she thinks about reconciliation, invites Viserys to dinner together and has Doreah bring him fresh clothes - Dothraki clothes, however, in the hope that he will be recognized more easily by the Dothraki, who despise him. Viserys reacts angrily to the presumed presumption of his sister and hits her. Daenerys struggles and hits him in the face with a heavy gold belt. She warns the stunned Viserys that the next time he raises his hand against her, he will lose it.[8]

During a ritual, Daenerys eats the raw heart of a stallion in front of the eyes of the Dosh Khaleen, an order widowed Khaleesiwho are considered wise women. The horse's heart should strengthen your unborn child. Daenerys manages to completely eat the raw heart and names her unborn son Rhaego in honor of her late brother Rhaegar Targaryen. It is prophesied that her son will be the stallion who will climb the world. He will be above everyone else Khals rule, all Khalasars unite into a single army and ride with all of them as his subjects to the ends of the world in order to conquer them. Drogo proudly follows the ritual and carries Daenerys on his hands for it. Viserys realizes that his sister outdid him and that he never entered the army of the Khals is obtained.

After his attempt to steal his sister's dragon eggs fails because of Ser Jorah, Viserys, disappointed and drunk, attends a Dothraki festival. With a sword he threatens Daenerys and the unborn child in her womb, violating the laws of the Dothraki - in the Holy City it is not permitted to carry steel weapons. He wants to put Drogo under pressure; He should fulfill the agreement and invade Westeros so that Viserys receives his golden crown, otherwise he wants to take his sister back with him. Drogo pretends to give in to his wish and Viserys lets go of his sister. Shortly afterwards he receives his "crown" when Drogo pours a kettle of molten gold over his head. Daenerys finds out emotionless that Viserys was not a real dragon, because fire cannot harm a dragon.[9]

As the last direct descendant of Aerys II Targaryen, Daenerys becomes aware of the inheritance that she could assume and tries to convince Drogo to conquer the Iron Throne for her son. He rejects the proposal as he believes that a Khal doesn't need a throne to sit on, just a horse to ride. Meanwhile, the orders of King Robert, already dying at this point, have reached Vaes Dothrak; a wine merchant tries to poison Daenerys. She is saved by Ser Jorah and Rakharo. After the assassination attempt, Drogo reverses his decision and vows to be Khalasar across the strait to conquer the Seven Kingdoms.[10]

To raise the capital for the planned campaign, Drogo's horde falls into the land of the Lhazareen, the "lamb man". There they make rich booty and enslave countless people. Daenerys, who was initially convinced of her plan, is horrified to see how the Dothraki treat their prisoners and, above all, the women. She protects a group of them and gets better treatment. Among them is the healer Mirri Maz Duur. The warrior Mago claims the women for himself and demands that Drogo surrender them; they are his rightful spoils of war. Mago leaves it to a fight with that Khal arrive when he takes his wife's side. Drogo kills him and suffers a slight cut in the chest. Daenerys is concerned about this, although Drogo does not attach particular importance to the wound. However, at Daenerys' urging, he agrees to let Maz Duur handle the cut.[11]

The Khalasar marches further south to the edge of a large desert when Drogo falls from his horse through his wound, which has been infected thanks to Maz Duur's work - a sign that the Dothraki interpret as a weakness in leadership. Mirri Maz Duur is asked by Daenerys to continue treating Drogo, but sees no hope for him. In desperation, Daenerys asks the healer, whom she still trusts, to use her magic to save Drogo's life.

The Dothraki, above all Drogo's blood rider Qotho, want to prevent the blood magic ritual. When Qotho attacks Daenerys and knocks him to the ground, Ser Jorah kills him, but Daenerys went into labor as a result of the push. Since the nurses of the Dothraki avoid Daenerys' proximity because of the blood magic, Ser Jorah brings them into the tent where Mirri Maz Duur casts her dark spell on Drogo, in the hope that she could help the child into the world. Daenerys thus becomes part of Mirri Maz Duur's blood spell. She is losing her child. The Khalasarthat only follows the strong dissolves, leaving only a handful of Dothraki to be loyal to her.[12]

Mirri Maz Duur actually bought Drogo's life with that of the unborn child, but he is in a state in which he is completely apathetic and no longer reacts to anything in his environment. Mirri Maz Duur explains that he will return to her “when the sun rises in the west and sinks in the east, when the seas dry up and the mountains blow like leaves in the wind” - never. Daenerys has to accept that she lost her husband; even if he is still alive, this condition is worse than death. More than that, Maz Duur confesses to her that from the first moment she took advantage of Daenery's trust to take revenge for the destruction of her city and to kill the khal and his unborn son. That was only possible because of Daenery's trust.
