How to use Facebook

In this text we are going to offer you a basic guide on how to use the social network. There is no way we are going to cover all the things you can do with the platform, but we will try to cover what it takes for you to start sharing content on Facebook

Create an account

Before you can do anything, you need to create an account. To do this, open the app and then tap Create New Facebook Account:

First start of Facebook

On the next screen, tap Next:

Then set your date of birth:

Date of birth of the user

Facebook will ask you to confirm that the date is indeed correct. Click on Yes:

Confirmation of the date of birth

Then enter your gender and tap Next:

Selection of the gender of the user

You will then be taken to a screen where you will need to enter a phone number or use an email account. When you've done this, click Next:

Now choose a password and tap on Next:

Configure your privacy settings

As soon as you log into your first Facebook session, you will be given the option to add your first friends, but we recommend that you forget about this (for now) and configure your privacy settings immediately.

It's completely legitimate for you to wonder why, and the answer is very simple: Facebook leaves your posts and some of your data open to everyone by default, so knowing how to restrict access to that data is a good idea can.

To do this, click on the button in the Facebook menu:

First start of the Facebook feed

Scroll now down and tap on Settings & Privacy:

Facebook menu

Then tap Privacy shortcutsThe first thing we're going to do is narrow down the number of people who can see our posted posts. To do this, click on Review a few important privacy settings:

Access to privacy options

Now let's click Who can see what you share:

Review of the data protection of posts

In this menu we control who can view our personal data. Some, such as B. the phone number, you might want for your privacy from "Friends" in "Only me" change so that no one (except yourself) has access to it. To change the privacy in all of these sections, click the drop-down menu button on the right and click Nextwhen you're done:

Privacy of the user's personal data

On the next screen we will control the privacy of our posts. It is strongly recommended that only your friends can see them (this is already the default), as well as restricting access to old posts to your friends (this is also the default). If you don't want to change anything (neither should you), click on Next:

Privacy of posts and stories

On the last page you have the option to block content or people that you do not want to see for whatever reason from the start. This last section is very personal, so each individual may or may not add what they think is appropriate. To do this, click on Add to Blocked List and click on Nextwhen you're done:

Configure the blacklist

A screen will appear informing you that this information has been successfully verified. If you want to check more, click on Review Another Topic. Otherwise, click the arrow in the top left corner of the screen:

In this case, there is one thing we are interested in checking one more thing before we go any further, which is to limit the way we can be found on the social network (so we will click the button). Now let's click How people can find you on Facebook:

Click on the next screen Next:

Finally, and this is something we strongly recommend, try to keep your profile as private as possible, uncheck the option that allows search engines to index your profile (it must be in gray) and click Next:

Enable or disable search engine indexing

Create posts and share external content

We conclude this short basic guide to using Facebook here. Posting is the best way to let your contacts know what you're doing at any given time, what you're thinking about, or what you want to do in the near future, to name a few examples.

You can create different post types:

  • Photos or videos with (or without) text.
  • Tag friends in a publication.
  • An activity that you are currently doing.
  • A visit to a specific place.
  • Open your camera to take a picture, which will be uploaded instantly.
  • A GIF, a moving image that repeats itself in a loop.
  • Text on a background color.
  • A three-dimensional photo.
  • Ask for recommendations.
  • Create a group view of a video on Facebook Watch (the platform for watching videos from the social network).
  • Apply for support for a non-profit organization.

To create a post, just click on What's on your mind?:

Create a post

Here a menu will appear with all the options just mentioned:

Post types

In this example we are going to create a text status on a background color. We click Background color and write what we want. When we're done, we'll tap post:

Post created

The process is very similar for the other options available through the post creation menu. Do a little research to familiarize yourself with them. You will see that they hold no secrets.

Content sharing is another key feature of running social networks. It can be done with virtually any application. Imagine for a moment that you want to share a YouTube video. To do this, first open the application and search for what you want to share. When you've done that, tap the three dots button next to the video you're interested in to bring up the menu by clicking Share have to click:

Various options for sharing will appear. In this case we will be the Newsfeed keep:

The Facebook app will be opened. Here we optionally add a comment if we think it appropriate, and then tap tangled "Post", to him in ours timeline too publish:

Edit the Facebook post

All the content we share will be visible to our contacts on Facebook. Remember that this mechanism is exactly the same for practically all applications that allow us to share their content: it doesn't matter if it's Giphy, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. The mechanics are the same in all cases.
